Himalaya Eye Hospital was established in 1993 at Gharipatan, Pokhara of Kaski district. It is being run under NNJS with the financial support of Eyecare Foundation, the Netherlands. As per the agreement signed, the Eyecare Foundation, the Netherlands provided 10% of total operating cost as its contribution towards hospital operation and continued its full support for community based activities, human resource development, and procurement for equipments and instruments for the hospital. The project "Strengthening Eye Care Services in Nepal" implemented by NNJS with support of AOCA has recognized Himalaya Eye Hospital as training centre for Phaco-emulsification Training to ophthalmologists and refresher training to mid- level ophthalmic manpower. Giving continuity to the program of previous years, Himalaya Eye Hospital conducted surgical eye camps in Djibouti, an East African Nation in 2007. The camps were organized in five provinces of the country and altogether 720 surgeries were performed. This is the highest number of surgery ever performed in a single series of camp in that country.
